SN500 is the heavy neutral grade of Group I base oil, and one of the most traded base stocks for blending. It gives the body and viscosity that diesel engine oils, gear oils and many industrial lubricants need. Blenders in India, the Middle East and Africa buy it regularly, often alongside a light grade such as SN150 to hit the final viscosity.

Ametheus supplies virgin SN500 base oil on FOB and CFR/CIF terms to lubricant blenders, grease makers, industrial-oil producers and trade partners. We supply flexitanks, ISO tanks, drums and bulk parcels from established refining regions. We work on a contract basis and do not sell retail. Re-refined base oil is quoted only when you ask for it, and is always declared as re-refined.

Key Applications

Automotive Lubricants (dominant use)

  • Heavy-duty diesel engine oils (e.g. SAE 15W-40, 20W-50) and monogrades
  • Two-wheeler and passenger-car motor oils, blended with lighter neutrals
  • Automotive gear oils and transmission fluids

Industrial Lubricants

  • Industrial gear oils, compressor oils and circulating oils
  • Hydraulic oils (higher ISO VG grades)
  • Base for greases

Process & Other Uses

  • Metalworking fluids, rust-preventive oils and process oils
  • Rubber processing and extender oils, where the specification allows

Packaging & Logistics

  • Flexitanks, about 20 – 22 MT per 20′ container
  • ISO tank containers, about 20 – 22 MT net
  • New 208 L steel drums (about 180 kg net; around 80 drums per 20′ container)
  • 1,000 L IBCs for smaller lots, subject to availability
  • Bulk parcels in product tankers into coastal terminals

Load-port inspection is done by an independent surveyor (SGS, Intertek, Saybolt or similar). Before loading, the surveyor checks tank or flexitank cleanliness. For bulk parcels, shore-tank and ship-tank samples are kept.

Storage & Handling

  • Store in clean, dry, dedicated tanks or under cover. Keep water out; moisture spoils colour, haze and additive response.
  • Keep base oil grades segregated, and do not mix virgin and re-refined stock.
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact. Use gloves and goggles when handling.
  • Full SDS is available on request.

Commercial Terms

  • Incoterms 2020: FOB load port, CFR / CIF discharge port (e.g. Mundra, Kandla, JNPT, Chennai), as agreed
  • Pricing: Fixed price per MT, or formula-linked to recognised benchmarks (e.g. ICIS / Argus base oil assessments), as agreed
  • Payment: LC or CAD against documents on first contracts
  • Quality: Load-port and/or discharge inspection as agreed. COA, SDS and Certificate of Origin are provided.
  • Lots: From container lots (flexitank, ISO tank or drums) up to bulk parcels, depending on the discharge terminal
