1. Heavy Melting Scrap (HMS 1 & 2)

HSN Code: 72044900

Heavy Melting Steel Scrap is categorized into:

  • HMS 1: ≥ ¼ inch (6.3 mm) thick, free of galvanized/blackened steel (ISRI 200–202)
  • HMS 2: Includes galvanized/blackened steel, ≥ ⅛ inch (3.2 mm) thick (ISRI 203–206)

Popular Blends:

  • 80/20 (Premium – most traded)
  • 90/10 (Higher density)
  • 70/30 and 60/40

Key Features:

  • Yield: ~20 tons per 20-ft container (80/20 blend); higher in denser variants
  • Sources: Demolition, household, ship recycling, industrial scrap
  • Non-metal impurities: ≤ 1%
  • Free from radiation, explosives, hazardous materials
  • Residual alloy limits strictly followed

Applications: Steel mills, re-rollers, and foundries.

2. Plates and Structures (PNS)

HSN Code: 72044900

Clean structural steel profiles (H-beams, I-beams, angles, pipes, plates, merchant bars) – minimum 6 mm thick.

  • Standard PNS (ISRI 236/237/238): Yields ≥ 25 tons per 20-ft container
  • PNS Bonus (Premium Grade): Thicker, cleaner material with superior yield (26–28+ tons/container)
  • PNS Hollow Bundle: Compressed hollow/tubular structural sections for easy handling and good density

Related ISRI Codes: 231, 232 (plate & structural, 5 ft and under)

Applications: Structural steel production and heavy fabrication.

3. Bundled Scrap Grades

HSN Code: 72044900

  • Premium Bundle (No.1 Bundle – ISRI 208): Compressed new black steel sheet clippings and skeleton scrap. Minimum density: 75 lbs/cu ft. High purity, ideal for premium melting.
  • LMS Bundle (Light Melting Scrap Bundle): Compressed light-gauge steel (thin sheets, tin cans, food tins, light profiles). Cost-effective and widely used by induction furnaces and small mills.

4. Shredded Scrap (ISRI 210 & 211)

HSN Code: 72044900

Homogeneous, magnetically separated, shredded iron and steel scrap.

  • ISRI 211: Uniform fragments (50–150 mm), density ≥ 50 lbs/cu ft (800 kg/m³)
  • ISRI 210: Similar grade with slightly lower density
  • Free from non-ferrous metals, excessive rust, and contaminants

Applications: Steel mills, foundries, construction, and automotive industries.
